Singapore 3PL major builds food logistics park in northeast China
KEPPEL Telecommunications & Transportation, a major Singapore third party logistics provider, is joining hands with the government of the northeastern Chinese city of Jilin to build an international food logistics park, Xinhua reports.
Keppel's subsidiary has set up a company, Jilin Sino-Singapore Food Zone International Co Ltd, jointly with the Jilin city government, as the operator of the Sino-Singapore Food Zone International Logistics Park. The two parties invested CNY200 million (US$32.03 million) in the joint venture. Keppel holds 70 per cent while Jilin has 30 per cent.
The first phase of the project will cost CNY598 million and occupy 40 hectares, comprising of a 44,000-square metre warehouse and more than 1,000 wholesale stores.
The logistics park will ensure perishables are shipped to domestic and overseas markets in the shortest time. It takes only 20 minutes for the products to be moved to the Changchun's Longjia airport.
China and Singapore signs an agreement on setting up the Jilin Sino-Singapore Food Zone in September. The zone will adopt technologies and technical standards of both countries and offers a supply chain service for food from developing, processing to sales in the market.
