Dnata's freight up 700pc on surge in heavylift cargo through Dubai airport
EMIRATES ground handler dnata's new FreightGate-8 terminal at Dubai World Central Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), has posted a 700 per cent increase in cargo volume for fiscal 2011-2012 because of rising heavylift shipments.
The company reports increases in standard air cargo and in heavy lift exports such as its heaviest single piece of cargo handled of a 95-tonne purpose-built gas turbine, which was flown to Nigeria, reported Heavy Lift & Project Forwarding International.
To cope with such cargo its ramp teams and FreightGate cargo terminals need to improve specialised handling equipment. Dnata has acquired equipment to handle cargo more than 40 feet in length on a fabricated airport dolly.
