Ships advised to take care as yacht races take place around Hong Kong
A SERIES of yacht races in the Hong Kong harbour area around Lamma Island, Middle Island, Port Shelter, Tathong Channel and Victoria Harbour will take place from 10am to 6pm daily until Saturday October 27 with some 14 sail boats and three guard boats participating.
Masters, coxswains and those in charge of vessels navigating in the vicinity are advised to proceed with caution. Compliance with the provisions of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 is mandatory, authorities note.
Depending on the weather conditions, the races will take place on the following specified dates and times:
On Tuesday October 23, the race will start at about 10am from Middle Island to south of Stanley Peninsula, Sheung Sze Mun, southeast of D'Aguilar Peninsula, Tathong Channel, east of Tung Lung Chau and will finish at the Port Shelter at 6pm.
On Wednesday October 24 and Thursday October 25, the race will start at 10am from Port Shelter to east of Clear Water Bay Peninsula and will return there at 6pm.
On Friday October 26,, the race will start at 10am hours from Port Shelter through Tathong Channel, Eastern Fairway and will finish at Causeway Bay at 6pm.
On Saturday October 27, the race will start at 10am from Causeway Bay through Hung Hom Fairway, Eastern Fairway, Tathong Channel and return to Causeway Bay at 6pm.
