Estonia's box terminal sees throughput rise 19pc in first nine months

ESTONIA's largest container terminal, Transiidikeskuse AS Muuga, handled 19,049 TEU in September, while in the first nine months of the year, 172,652 TEU was handled, an increase of 19.4 per cent compared to the same period last year.

"In the last quarter, an even bigger growth of the container turnover can be expected since several new projects have been launched with new clients," said Transiidikeskuse chairman Erik Laidvee. "The biggest is certainly the start of cooperation with Mitsubishi," he said in a report by the Baltic Course, Riga, Latvia.

 

Mr Laidvee said a container train carrying components needed to produce Mitsubishi cars departs from the terminal heading for Kaluga.FAXTEXT = The Muuga general goods terminal of Transiidikeskus handled between January and September 453,155 tonnes of general goods, up three per cent year on year. Total cargo turnover in the first nine months of the year was 2,027,159 tonnes, up two per cent.
