Two northeast China railways linked to connect Tonghua and Guanshui
A NEW railway from north eastern China city Tonghua to Guanshui has opened to traffic, marking the separated railways in the region are finally connected together into a network.
The railway network is situated close to the Sino-North Korean and Sino-Russian border, about 400 metres to the Sino-North Korean border at the closest, covering a distance of 1,380 kilometres, connecting Liaoning province's Dalian, Zhuanghe, Dandong, Jilin province's Tonghua, Baishan, Yanbian Prefecture, and Heilongjiang province's Mudanjiang.
A total of three lines were built to link the 13 separate railways together, which are the recently completed Tonghua-Guanshui line, and the previously completed Qianyang-Zhuanghe and Baihe-Helong line.
The Tonghua-Guanshui line has an annual cargo capacity of 16 million tonnes and a passenger capacity of 2.16 million seats. Its completion enables the forming of the railway network covering the eastern coastal region of north eastern China provinces, which will provide greater convenience for hinterland shippers.
