Heilongjiang extends cold chain logistics into farm sector to end spoilage
NORTHEASTERN China's major farming province of Heilongjiang plans to widen coverage of cold chain logistics services in the agricultural area to provide market expansion for its product both domestically and internationally, Xinhua reports.
Deputy provincial governor Sun Yao said the province supplies 80 per cent of its farm produce to the rest of China. But due to the short shelf life of food, many food processing plants are only in operation for three to four months a year. Cold chain logistics may well resolve this problem, said Mr Sun.
The province will devote more effort to the study of building more cold storage facilities close to fields to reduce waste caused by decaying food and to lower cost.
Mr Sun said the province will develop platform and seek opportunities for agricultural product makers to cooperate with cold chain logistics service providers from home and abroad, and will connect its food supply with the marketing network in first and second tier cities.
