Liaoning provincial port throughput increases 24pc to 9.68 million TEU
BENEFITING from its vast hinterland, the northeastern province of Liaoning's ports saw a robust year-on-year growth of 23.9 per cent in the container throughput to 9.68 million TEU, while overall cargo tonnage increased 13.2 per cent to 586 million tonnes, Xinhua reports.
Liaoning's investment on ports this year came to CNY12.27 billion (US$1.95 billion), taking up over 60 per cent of its annual investment target.
Statistics show that Dandong port spent CNY3.17 billion, the largest sum in the province, on port projects, followed by Dalian.
At present, there are a number of major port projects under construction in the province, including Dalian's Changxing Island 300,000-tonne crude oil terminal, Yingkou's Boyuquan port area breakwater, Jinzhou's third port area multi-use berth, Dandong's 50,000- to 200,000-tonne navigational channel dredging project and Panjin's Rongxing port area multi-use berth.
