Evergreen's second quarter profit too small to wipe out first half loss
TAIWAN's Evergreen Marine Corp (EMC) has achieved a positive second quarter result, with a net profit of TWD858 million (US$29 million) on operating income of TWD641 million (US$22 million).
Its net income was partly boosted by a TWD542 million gain from asset sales booked in the second quarter.
On the other hand, the shipping line in the first six months of 2012 lost TWD2.4 billion with an operating loss of TWD2.24 million
EMC's financial results are not fully consolidated with all of the container shipping interests of the Evergreen Group, which also include Italia Marittima, Evergreen Marine (UK), Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) and Evergreen Marine (Singapore), which all sail under "Evergreen Line" banner.
The shipping group took delivery of its first 8,452-TEU, L-class ship this year and will add to its fleet a total of 35 ships of this size and a further 10 vessels of 13,800 TEU by 2015, reports Alphaliner.
