Combined Los Angeles-Long Beach container volumes decline in August
THE Port of Los Angeles container volumes slip 6.2 per cent in August year on year to 525,581 TEU, while tonnage increased at Long Beach 1.4 per cent year on year.
Long Beach's total volume was 543,445 TEU, which included a 2.9 increase in loaded imports to 274,977 TEU, and a 5.7 per cent increase in loaded exports to 128,225 TEU. Empties fell 4.9 per cent to 140,243 TEU. Year-to-date, Long Beach volume was down 4.6 per cent to 3.9 million TEU.
Meanwhile Los Angeles imports decreased 4.1 per cent to 360,762 TEU in August with exports falling 10.5 per cent to 164,819 TEU in the same period.
For the first seven months of 2012, overall container volumes have increased 5.1 per cent to 5,443,248 TEU year on year.
