Port operations restored after ship collision causes Singapore oil spill
A HONG KONG bulk carrier, the 57,000-dwt Sunny Horizon, collided with the liquefied petroleum gas carrier, the 4,488 dwt DL Salvia, on Sunday afternoon September 9 in Singapore's Temasek Fairway, 700 metres east of Sultan Shoal.
The bunker tank on DL Salvia was breached and less than 60 tonnes of bunker was spilled. The area of spill is concentrated within Temasek Fairway.
Upon notification, the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) immediately dispatched its patrol craft to deal with the oil spill. Oil spill response companies were also activated to augment the patrol craft. A total of seven patrol and anti-pollution craft have been deployed to clean up the spilled oil. Work was continuing and the MPA is co-ordinating the clean up with other government agencies and the shipowners.
The two vessels involved in the collision are in the West Jurong anchorage. The MPA has issued navigational broadcasts to ships to navigate with caution in the vicinity of the accident site. There is no report of injury and port operations remain unaffected.
