Las Vegas airport gets US$17.8 million grant to reconstruct two taxiways
THE US Department of Transportation will provide US$17.8 million to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas to rebuild two main taxiways.
The Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Programme (AIP) grant will allow for the rehabilitation of 5,000 feet of Taxiway E, which runs parallel to and between the airport's north-south runways. It also will fund the resurfacing of Taxiway H and improve signage, which runs parallel to and west of those runways.
The project will replace the existing cracked pavement with a surface that's more durable, requires less maintenance and stands up better to high desert temperatures.
AIP grants provide $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are essential to maintaining safety, capacity, and environment of the country's airports. More than 3,300 airports are eligible for AIP grants benefiting passengers, cargo operations, and general aviation activities.
