Latvian ports' box volume up 27.4pc in first 7 months to 216,075 TEU
CONTAINER volume through Latvian ports of Freeport Riga, Freeport of Ventspils, Liepaja was up 27.4 per cent to 216,075 TEU in first seven months of 2012 year on year with overall cargo throughput increasing 14.8 per cent to 46.25 million tonnes.
According to Latvia's transport ministry's data, container activity was most marked at Riga Port with 213,137 TEU, a 27.1 per cent increase and overall cargo handled there came to 21.96 million tonnes. Liepaja handled 2,531 TEU, a 34.6 per cent increase while overall cargo throughput came to four million tonnes and Ventspils Port put through 360 TEU and 19.4 million tonnes of cargo overall.
