Kuehne + Nagel expands services for BMW with Bavarian logistics hub
THE Kuehne + Nagel logistics centre in Worth, Bavaria, is fast becoming the major hub for the BMW plants in Germany with the expansion of the facility by taking over an additional 50,000 square metres of logistics space out of which BMW locations in Saxony and Bavaria will be supplied.
Starting from the beginning of the month, the supply centre in Worth has been expanded to a total space of 95,000 square metres from where the BMW plants in Dingolfing, Landshut and Leipzig are being supplied, with Kuehne + Nagel organising the transportation services between the supply centre and the BMW production sites.
In addition, the logistics company is in charge of warehousing, sequencing, the commissioning of components, reverse logistics, customs clearance and various security tasks. The supply centre will also be used as a cross-dock, where goods from suppliers will be received, handled and distributed to all Bavarian BMW plants.
Since 1999, the company has been providing complex contract logistics solutions to BMW, including spare parts logistics, process management and the supply of BMW's plant in Leipzig. Kuehne + Nagel operates logistics centres throughout Germany with a total area of 230,000 square metres for BMW.
"We are happy to further expand the collaboration with BMW," says Jens Wollesen, member of the management board of Kuehne + Nagel, also responsible for contract logistics in the Central Europe Region. "The production supply we are enabling for BMW from Worth is of high logistical complexity. With the new supply centre for BMW we are setting a milestone for Kuehne + Nagel's automotive logistics in terms of production delivery and sequencing."
