Chongqing to build European trade cargo distribution centre in 2012

CHONGQING's Liangjiang New Area will build a distribution centre for European trade cargo later this year to attract transnational retailers involved with e-commerce and logistics and further exploit Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe rail potential, Xinhua reports.

Liangjiang New Area has worked out a plan for the six-square kilometre Sino-European Trade City, where the area will invite more than 100 top international brands to set up offices and build a product exhibition area and trading centre.

This year, the area will start off building a 33,000-square metre European imports exhibition hall this year to attract imported food, garments and cosmetic products trading and retailing business. The area also plans to set up duty-free luxury goods trading centre. It expects to become the largest European import product trading and retailing centre in the Chinese interior.

Liangjiang New Area is also looking to operate under free trade model and apply for pilot policies in offshore finance and trading and tax rebate.
