Virgin Atlantic Cargo names Hermes as GSA for Cancun-Gatwick service

VIRGIN Atlantic Cargo has awarded Hermes Aviation a general sales agent (GSA) contract to sell freight capacity on its new twice-weekly flights from Cancun, Mexico to London Gatwick and also to destinations in Europe and beyond, utilising the carrier's direct and on-forwarding network.

Hermes Aviation will market the airline's capacity via its existing offices in Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey and Cancun, targeting freight forwarders in Mexico.

Trucking connections from other cities in Mexico to Cancun have been arranged to also attract a good share of general cargo traffic for the airline's Boeing 747-400 flights, a statement from the air freight carrier said.

This development comes as cargo exports from Cancun have grown steadily over the last two years owing to an increase in overseas demand for perishable products such as ferns, fish, lemons, berries and mangoes.

Said Virgin Atlantic Cargo vice president Marie Epstein: "We have appointed Hermes to grow this market for us because of its experience, service, office network and market knowledge."
