Jiangsu Yancheng port half-year volume up 66pc to 13.5 million tonnes
YANCHENG, a river port in eastern China's Jiangsu province recorded a robust year on year growth of 66.3 per cent in its throughput to 13.59 million tonnes from January to June. The port also lifted 13,000 TEU in this period, said Xinhua.
In the first half, the port invested of CNY947 million (US$148.6 million), taking up 63.1 per cent of its annual projected expenditure.
Ten new projects are underway at Yancheng port, including a 50,000-tonne multi-use terminal at the Dafeng port area and a 100,000-tonne navigational channel at the Binhai port area. Investment on the 10 projects amounted to CNY1.86 billion (US$291.9 million) in 2010 and will surpass CNY2 billion this year.
According to Yangcheng Port Bureau vice director Tao Ying, Dafeng port area recorded a strong increase of 63 per cent in its throughput to 8.4 million tonnes in the first half of year. The full-year volume is expected to top 20 million tonnes, while Yancheng's full-year throughput is estimated to reach 30 million tonnes.
Yancheng now has 66 operational berths with a quay length of 4,228 metres and a capacity of 26.13 million tonnes. From 2011 to 2015, the port plans to spend CNY12.6 billion on 63 new berths, aiming to raise its container throughput to 500,000 TEU and cargo tonnage to 100 million tonnes.
