Shanxi posts growth in freight volume of three transport industries

NORTHERN Shanxi province has posted growth in rail, air and road freight volume in first five months, reports Xinhua.

The railway transported 235 million tonnes, a 6.3 per cent increase year-on-year increase while it moved 23.6 million passengers, up 2.8 per cent. Rail freight was up 4.9 per cent in May to 49.38 million tonnes.

The air freight throughput grew nine per cent to 18,076 tonnes with 36,185 departures and arrivals, up 12,4 per cent in the first five months year on year. While the passenger air volume reached 3.28 million individual trips, up 15.2 per cent.

Road freight volume increased nine per cent to 286.8 million tonnes while the passenger volume grew 0.8 per cent to 137.8 million. In May, the road cargo volume went up 10 per cent to 59.4 million tonnes and the passenger volume reached 27.4 million, almost the same as last year.
