Konecrane wins order for 12 RTGs for Togo's Lome Container Terminal
LOME Container Terminal (LCT) in Togo, West Africa has placed an order for 12 rubber-tyre gantry cranes (RTG) to support handling capacity of 1.5 million TEU and an estimated first year throughput of 400,000 TEU to 500,000 TEU.
The addition of the RTGs by Finnish Konecranes will allow for real-time container position through the terminal's operating system. The addition of a remote access feature allows for ongoing monitoring and less costly maintenance of the cranes.
Each 16-wheel crane is capable of lifting 40 tonnes and stacking one over six containers and seven across plus a truck lane. The Konecranes RTGs can be pre-programmed to drive a path by auto-steering that improves safety and productivity. Each crane boasts a Busbar power connection, which allows a conversion to full electric mode.
The Terminal Investment Ltd (TIL) operation has been awarded a 35-year concession in 2008 to construct the Lome container terminal with partial funding from the African Development Bank.
