John Menzies Aviation quits cargo operations at four British airports
JOHN Menzies' aviation services unit is to abandon cargo operations at four airports, Birmingham, East Midlands, Glasgow and Manchester from August 31.
Menzies Aviation will focus on its more profitable smaller operations of Aberdeen, Belfast and its key hub of London Heathrow in an exceptional write-off of some GBP3 million (US$4.69 million). Most of its 103 staff will be re-employed by rival firms, the company said.
Its newspaper distribution business lagged behind its aviation services in 2011, according to the Edinburgh-based company following first quarter 2012 results, reported the Edinburgh daily, The Scotsman.
