Dammam congestion clear but to be busier with coming of Ramadan holiday
HONG KONG's Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), which manages the container terminal in Dammam, on the Saudi coast of the Red Sea, said there is no congestion at the its terminal, despite carriers imposing surcharges because of slowdowns in cargo handling.
An HPH spokesman confirmed that external factors had recently affected operational productivity. He reassured that the International Ports Services Co (IPS) facility had been moving a record volume of containers in recent months and that ports were traditionally very busy in the four-six weeks in the run up to Ramadan on July 20.
"There is currently no congestion nor stoppages at the IPS container-handling facilities or elsewhere in the Dammam port area," said the statement.
