Humen port plans to launch direct shipping service to Japan
HUMEN port, a river port in Guangdong province's manufacturing city Dongguan, has signed a letter of cooperation intent with Cosco's subsidiary Shanghai PanAsia Shipping on an inaugural container shipping service from Humen to Japan, Xinhua reports.
Humen is the only port in Dongguan, the manufacturing base of the Pearl River Delta, and is rich in cargo source. While Cosco being the largest carrier in China is experienced in offering shipping service to Japan. If the service is launched, trade cargoes shipped via Humen to Japan can save at least CNY1,200 (US$188.6) per TEU compared to transshipping at Shenzhen and CNY3,200 at Hong Kong.
A senior official from Humen port disclosed that the warehousing area of the Dongguan Bonded Logistics Centre, located at Humen port, will be increased to 170,000 from 80,000 square metres this year.
