Yibin port half-year container throughput rockets 521pc to 10,056 TEU
SICHUAN province's river port Yibin had lifted 10,056 TEU during the first half of year, a steep increase of 521 per cent over the same period a year ago. The volume also surpasses its annual box throughput of 8,055 TEU last year, Xinhua reports.
The port said its efficiency has been substantially enhanced. This year, it will start offering 24-hour service and can complete handling one container in five minutes. Yibin will also upgrade its information technology facilities to strengthen the management of container shipping. It has adopted the GPS system to apply surveillance to the shipping process.
Yibin is also seeking to widen its hinterland by offering road-water or rail-water intermodal service and has set up a truck fleet. It is also applying for setting up a bonded logistics centre.
