Riga airport cargo volume soars 194.7pc to 17,416 tons in first half
LATVIA's Riga airport has experienced a surge in cargo in the first half of 2012 to 17,416 tons, a 194.7 per cent increase year on year.
The airport cargo shipment increase is attributed to regular air freight shipments from Afghanistan particularly those by US carriers, Kalitta Air and National Air Cargo, reports Baltic Course.
Latvia International Airport CEO Arnis Luhse said the cargo interest supports the airport and the wider economy of Latvia. "Taking into consideration that fast cargo handling and shipping is very important, already eleven new jobs have been created for this purpose at the Riga Airport."
