Kuehne + Nagel buys Vancouver perishable goods transport firm
SWISS forwarding giant Kuehne + Nagel has entered into an agreement to take over Perishables International Transportation Inc (PIT), of Vancouver, an air freight forwarder that specialises in the handling fresh and frozen perishable goods.
The acquisition marks another step forwards in realising the company's strategy to expand its activities in the field of perishables logistics globally.
"Following the general expansion of our perishables logistics business in Australia, Europe and South America, the acquisition of Perishables International Transportation allows us to grow these activities in North America," said Kuehne + Nagel air logistics vice president Tim Scharwath.
"The timing of this transaction ahead of the peak season is ideal and will also strengthen our position in the Canadian air freight market," he said.
Established in 1991, PIT's location within the cargo area of Vancouver International Airport provides access to all major airlines allowing for later cut-offs and shorter transit times for fruit, vegetables and seafood.
