PORT of Wuhan has commenced construction project of a terminal at a new port area, the Shamao port area, which is located at the west end of Yangtze River's Wuhan section, Xinhua reports.
The terminal cost CNY390 million (US$61.4 million) to build, covering a quay length of 330 metres with three 3,000-tonne berths and a warehouse. Its throughput is expected to reach 2.33 million tonnes.
Shamao port area is situated at Wuhan's Hannan District, where there is convenient access to transport infrastructure such as the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau expressway and the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu expressway. It is also less than 40 minute's drive away from Wuhan airport and railway station.
This year, Wuhan will also build four other new terminals. The five terminals including Shamao will cost a total of CNY1.5 billion. These terminals are expected to be able to handle 20 million tonnes a year, taking up 20 per cent of the total throughput of Wuhan.
