US, Canada, Mexico surface trade value up 8.2pc to US$79.9 billion
TRADE value between the United States, Canada and Mexico generated by surface transport posted an 8.2 per year-on-year increase to US$79.9 billion after falling 6.9 per cent from March, according to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
Trade value among the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners was up 7.4 per cent from April 2008 between the US, Canada and Mexico and up 60.4 per cent from April 2009 late in the recession.
U.S.-Canada trade increased 5.6 per cent year on year to $47.2 billion, while US-Mexico trade increased 12 per cent to $32.6 billion. In April, 86.5 per cent of US trade value with NAFTA partners moved by land, 9.8 per cent by water and 3.7 per cent by air.
