Chongqing's international cargo volume up 19.7pc in first five months
FROM January to May, Chongqing city posted an international cargo volume of 13.4 million tonnes, up 19.7 per cent year on year, Xinhua reports.
In the same period, the city's containerised trade cargo grew 34.2 per cent to 126,000 TEU.
Waterborne cargo increased 18.8 per cent to 3.34 million tonnes. Ground-transported cargo surged 93.4 per cent to 19,500 tonnes. International air freight rocketed 122 per cent up to 39,400 tonnes.
The growth of waterway cargo traffic is brought by the rapid increase in Chongqing's conventional product trade and the completion of the Three Gorges Dam project.
The increase in ground and air cargo was simulated by the boom in Chongqing's production of IT products.
