Singapore transport sector leads all in reporting their eco-activities
CORPORATE social responsibility (CSR) lobby Singapore Compact has reported that the city's manufacturing, transport, storage and communication sectors account for the largest share of reporting on their own environmental activities.
These sectors, said the group, offer balanced disclosure, with scores that exceed the overall average in most categories, including technological development, constant updates in regulation and standards, reports Singapore's Procurement Asia.
The manufacturing sector was found to produce more "significant" reporting on governance and investment in non-core infrastructure, with equal coverage on all other categories. But environmental activity reporting from the manufacturing sector was criticised for not providing as much information as reports from other sectors.
The study shows that out of the 562 companies polled that were listed on the Singapore Exchange mainboard at the end of 2010, only 14 per cent, or 79, were involved in reporting activities. But this marks a 25 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
Most companies followed the Global Reporting Initiative framework, with only about half referencing the United National Global Compact guide.
