Maersk splits from CMA CGM on Panama-east coast South America service

MAERSK Line is scrapping its vessel sharing agreement with CMA CGM on the service that connects ports in Brazil, Panama, Colombia, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, which is named NCX by Maersk and Brazex by CMA CGM.

Alphaliner reported that Maersk has informed CMA CGM of its decision and given the required six months' notice.

The joint service that was organised in September 2009 and currently deploys six 2,800-TEU vessels, with each carrier providing three to call at ports in Manzanillo, Kingston, Port of Spain, Vitoria, Santos, Paranagua, Itajai, Santos, Rio de Janeiro and Cartagena.

The service was created by combining CMA CGM's Brazilian Express service (Brazex) and Maersk's North Coast Express (NCX).

The report added that the Danish shipping line is looking for alternative services to transport cargo to the east coast of South America and intra-America.
