l    From the Mayor

Shenzhen is a city of miracles. During the past 25 years, it has developed from a small fishing village into an exciting international economic center and one of the most developed metropolises in China. The import-export volume of Shenzhen has been ranked as the No. 1 city among the mid and large scale cities in China from 1992. It has been evaluated as the top three comprehensive competitive cities in China.

Shenzhen is a city of logistics hub in China and Far East Asia with strong competitive advantages. Logistics industry is defined as one of the four strategic industries in the regional economic development progress. The municipal council has offered series of incentives and has attracted billions of dollars of domestic investments and FDI in logistics industry. In 2005, the seaport of Shenzhen is ranked as the top four deep---seaports in the world. It has 160 international shipping lines linking ports from East Asia to North America, to Europe and to Mediterranean. The volume of containers (including harbor of Yantian, Shekou, ChiWan) exceeds 16 million TEU. At the mean time, the Shenzhen International Airport has dominated the air-transportation market in the Pearl River Delta and south China. In 2005, the throughput of Shenzhen airport passengers is up to 15,500,000 and the throughput of goods is over 550,000 tons, which has entered top 50-airfreight airport in the world. 

In addition, this Municipal government has also realized that, under the progress of globalization, information technologies will play an increasingly important role in the regional economic development. The municipal government has invested millions of dollars and has introduced the most advanced technologies into logistics industry in order to promote and further upgrade the logistics industry.

In the ’Eleventh Five-Year Strategic Plan’, the municipal council is planning to consolidate Shenzhen as the leading international logistics hub in the world.

‘ILSCMF (2006) is the first international fair in logistic and supply chain management to be held in China. ILSCMF aims at providing an open platform for Chinese and foreign companies to present their technologies and services, to effectively collaborate and innovate in logistics, procurement and supply chain management. More importantly, it is a platform where you will be able to seek opportunities of cooperation and investment.
