Regional Ports 2008
Master planning the logistic hubs of Australia’s future
12th -13th June 2008, Rydges Southbank Townsville
The resources boom has ensured that substantial and sustained growth is forecast for the volumes of cargo moving through our ports. A look at the nation’s coastline will reveal a similar snapshot - be it deepening shipping channels, upgrading stevedoring equipment, redeveloping or expanding intermodal facilities -ports are planning, financing and constructing new infrastructure to accommodate this growth.
In understanding the new pressures on ports, the summit’s focus will extend to a review of the consequences of growth, including the issues of environmental management, urban encroachment and port / city interface. It will also feature local and international case studies highlighting the success of community engagement initiatives.
