Ship Finance and Risk Management

Meeting the challenges to maximize the opportunities in ship financing and minimize the risks
 
Asia’s shipping industry is rapidly growing and expanding as it strengthens its position in the global arena. Maritime services and facilities such as chartering, marine insurance are also increasing in importance. Ship owners and foreign shipping entities are continually expanding their fleet, replacing old vessels and chartering additional vessels. On the other hand, ship owners are facing the rising costs of capital and difficulties in financing their investments. Therefore more alternative ship financing options are needed as the shipping and maritime services expand and grow.
 
Further to this, banks and finance houses are also faced with challenges in assisting ship owners and foreign shipping entities. One example of such challenges would be the risk management, regulatory constrains and assessment of the ship owner’s credibility before issuing shipping loans.
