Largest ever Marintec China 2007 hits New Records

Marintec China 2007, the most definitive Asia maritime event, closed on 30 November 2007 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre with great success: over 1,100 exhibiting companies attended, with 35,309 visitors being registered, up 17% on the previous event in 2005.

Over the four-day show, out of 35,309 visitors, 4,085 were from overseas, an impressive increase of 40%.  The exhibition expanded in size by 35% to 36,500 sqm, spanning three exhibition halls as well as an additional tented area.  An encouraging 48% increase in the number of overseas visiting countries was recorded, reaching 87 countries. These figures truly reflect the strong force underpinning the market and, at the same time, the demand for connecting global industry communities, to share and to explore. Marintec China just provides the platform for establishing connectivity, at the right place and right time.

Marintec China is recognized as the most definitive event of its kind in Asia, with more and more maritime professionals becoming involved in this important event.

The second largest national pavilion organizer, German Pavilion, felt optimistic in developing business in China. “Marintec China is the most important fair abroad for the German marine equipment industry. That is demonstrated by the fact that exhibitors’ figures are up again.”

Another exhibitor, Heli Malkavaara, the Communications Manager from MacGREGOR Group, forecasts market growth in China and its important role globally. “What could be a more natural place for both domestic and international players in the maritime industry to be, but Marintec China. The quality of the stands in all halls was high, companies do invest in this event, and I am confident that their investments are worthy.” She continues to show her confidence in exhibiting in Marintec China.

Visitors were pleased with the high quality of booths in Marintec China, in addition to the increasing number of exhibiting companies, services and products showcased, offering them chances to be exposed in an international maritime event.

The Senior Maritime Forum, with the theme of “China’s Economy and the Global Maritime Industry”, ran concurrently with the Marintec China exhibition. Maritime professionals attended the conference sessions with specific themes presented by 24 well-known industry leaders discussing the impacts and developments in China, and how she interacts with the global maritime industry. They all felt the conferences were outstanding and enabled them to be the first tier to receive first-hand information with a cutting-edge perspective.

Outside the boundary, the market is undergoing overwhelming development. The Chinese government aims to grasp the opportunity ahead and makes a clear target. She plans to increase yearly shipbuilding capacity to 23 million tons by 2010 and 28 million tons by 2015, by forming a number of large-scale shipyards along its eastern and southern coastlines, explained Mr Zhang Guobao, Vice Chairman, The National Development and Reform Commission, PRC. Furthermore, the performance of China’s container transportation has achieved a distinguished level. “For every two containers travelling along shipping lines in the Pacific, one is from China. The country manufactures 90 percent of the world’s containers. The government will invest more in areas such as innovation and policy implementation.” said Mr Xu Zuyuan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Communications, PRC. All reactions are equally important for the country to achieve the goal, as the world’s largest shipbuilding country.

Marintec China 2007 was organised and managed by CMP/Seatrade and the Shanghai Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineering (SSNAME).  And it was sponsored by The Commission of Science, Technology & Industry for National Defence, PRC, The Ministry of Communications, PRC, and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and co-sponsored by China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry and Chinese Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers.

The next exhibition of Marintec China is scheduled for 1-4 December 2009 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, China.
