WUHU SHIPYARD is one of the key enterprises under China State Shipbuilding Corporation and was one of the 156 key reconstruction projects in China’s first Five-Year-Plan. The shipyard covers an area of 60,000 square meters and has over 2,600 employees, including 700technical personnel. The Shipyard consists of shipbuilding department, steel construction and machinery department, tertiary industry department, business department, supply department and quality inspection department. Under the shipbuilding department and steel construction and machinery department, there are fully- equipped workshops and branch factories such as hull shop, cabin outfitting shop, paint shop, machine shop, fitting out shop, deck outfitting shop, marine engine fitting shop, electrical shop etc. Under the tertiary industry department, there is the shipyard Hotel. The shipyard has set up the production lines for civil ships, naval ships and marine propellers. The shipyard has NC loft, computer center, physicochemical laboratory, welding laboratory, metering device checking station, nondestructive detection center and engineering plastics &coating research center.
 
The shipyard has an inclined building berth for ships up to 30,000 DWT, five fabrication platforms with an area of 20,000 square metres, a 1,500-t-load slipway, a 200m-long fixed outfitting quay and a 230m-long pontoon quay as well as 14 gantry cranes ranging from 10T to 100T SWL. The shipyard possesses over 1000 special equipment for processing, manufacturing, testing, inspecting and transporting. The shipyard is of a good condition for the manufacturing of ships and other products. In recent years, the ships that Wuhu shipyard can build become bigger and bigger, the ship’s technical added value is increasing and the quality of ship built by the shipyard keeps improving. A variety of ships from the four 20,000 Dwt open hatch box shaped bulk carriers built for Germany, to the three 21,400 DWT multi-purpose general ships built for China Ocean Shipping Company(COSCO), to the 24,400DWT bulk carriers and 27,000DWT Lake-suitable bulk carriers built for Greek Owners as well as Stand-by vessels and Anchor Handling Tug/Supply Vessles for domestic owners such as CNOOC and Shengli Oil-field and Platform Supply Vessels for British Owner indicate that Wuhu Shipyard has the capability of building the ships up to 30,000DWT class.

WUHU SHIPYARD attaches importance to the development and application of new products and new technology.The NC lofting and nesting programs developed by Wuhu shipyard have been popularized in many Chinese shipyards. At present, Wuhu shipyard is pursuing such advanced shipbuilding technoliogy as production design and high-effective welding and the pre-outfitting rate of the built ships is being raised.
