WEIHAI SHIPYARD is a backbone shipbuilding and ship-repairing enterprise with more than 50 years history, is also one of the largest shipbuilding enterprises of Shandong Province. The area is 240,000 square meters, the personnel is 1,100 workers and in them 280 engineers. It can build vessel up to 18,000dwt and repair vessel up to 7,000dwt. Annual shipbuilding output is 50,000dwt and annual ship repairing is 100 vessels. Since 1962, Weihai Shipyard has built 300 various kinds of vessels for domestic and overseas customers.
In 1999, Weihai Shipyard passed through ISO9000 quality system approval and began to have a self-operated power to engage in import and export trade. In 1996, began to build vessels for overseas ship-owners, who came from Liberia, Germany, Cyprus, Holland, Japan, which are reefer container and multi-purpose container vessels. The quality is praised by ship-owners and classification society.Especially, the 820TEU container vessels, which are built for Germany ship-owners, has filled the blank of 10,000dwt shipbuilding in SHANDONG.
For fit in with the needs of Weihai Shipyard developing and Weihai city construction, at present, Weihai Shipyard is putting the whole moving and relocating project into effect. In 2006, as the first period project will be completed, Weihai Shipyard will have a annual shipbuilding output 600,000dwt and as the second period project will be completed, Weihai Shipyard will have a annual shipbuilding output 900,000dwt.
