Company Profile
China Shipping (m) Sdn Bhd
China Shipping (Group) Company made her entry into Malaysia with the incorporation of a subsidiary company, China Shipping (Malaysia) Agency Sdn. Bhd. on 26th August 1998. This historical day marked the beginning of a challenging era of development and growth of China Shipping (M) Agency Sdn. Bhd. in providing total shipping services. A work force of 6 employees commenced operations in December 1998 at the office in Port Klang.
The initial China Shipping vessels that made direct calls at Malaysian Ports, were non-containerised vessels that included tankers, bulkers and conventional vessels. All containers for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) were transshipped at other Hubs such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Pusan. On April 2000, the first direct call to Port Klang was by the mother container vessel “MV HSH KUSU” on the West Bound Asia Mediterranean Express Service and she berthed at Westport Terminal. The tremendous support by the Ministry of Transport, close cooperation with the Port authorities, customs, Immigration, Health Officials, and the various port ancillary service providers, had won the confidence of CSCL. This confidence made Port Klang an important Hub for CSCL, resulting in the rapid addition of various CSCL services calling directly at Port Klang in 2001 and 2002.
The fast pace growth of CSCL continued into 2003 and 2004. Bigger capacity vessels were introduced. An important milestone was reached with the inaugural call of the world’s largest vessel to date, MV CSCL Europe, a 8,500 teus vessel, on the 9th of September 2004. This process of developing large capacity vessels by CSCL has attained a new momentum. China Shipping (M) Agency Sdn. Bhd. also grew in tandem to cater for this expansion. The new head office in Malaysia, located at Subang Jaya, began operations in December 2003, working together with branch offices in Penang, Pasir Gudang and a terminal office in Port Klang.
In 2004, the number of employees grew to over 100.
The rapid momentum of growth experienced so far is in line with CSCL’s vision of attaining by 2010, the accolade of being among the top three container liner operators in the world.
