Hyundai to build ten 5,000-dwt dry cargo carriers for Volga-Baltic Company

Hyundai Corporation in China has commenced metal cutting for construction of a head 5,280-dwt dry cargo carrier project DCV36 for Volga-Baltic Company. The contract for construction of ten vessels was signed by Viktor Olerski, Chairman of the Council of the Association of Shipping Companies, BOD Chairman of North-Western Shipping Company OJSC and by the President of Noh Young Dong, Marine Engineering Bureau, he project designer, reports.
“DCV36 is an innovative project as it is to be the first one-hold dry cargo carrier with length below 85 meters to have deadweight exceeding 5,000 tonnes,” MEB says.
Vessels project DCV36 are designed for sea transportation of general and dry bulk cargo including 20’ and 40’ international containers with height of up to 9.5 feet (including refrigerated containers), metal, grain, timber, coal large-size and heavy cargo, hazardous cargo class 1.4S, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8, 9 of Appendix В to ВС Code. Ice3 category enables such vessels to operate in the Baltic and the White Seas in winter. The vessel’s class is (РС) КМ (*) Ice 3 АUT1 of Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping.
The vessels’ overall length is 89.96 m, displacement length – 84.89 m, breadth – 14.5 m, depth 7.5, draft – 6.4 m, deadweight – 5,280 t. Hold capacity – 6,230 m3.
The delivery of the first vessel is under the contract is scheduled for March 2010.
