STX Shipbuilding's Oil-tankers Nominated as World's Best Ships

Two oil carriers constructed by STX Shipbuilding were opted as “Significant Ships of 2008” by the world’s most renowned marine engineering research institute. “Significant Ships” is a publication annually printed by the British “The Royal Institution of Naval Architect” and its February issue stated two of STX Shipbuilding’s oil-tankers as Significant Ships of 2008.
The two spotlighted ships constructed last year by STX Shipbuilding are 51,000DWT oil-tanker named “Emirates Star” for UAE’s Emirates Trading Agency and 115,000DWT oil carrier tagged “Fair Seas” ordered by Turkey’s Aktif Shipping.
Both the ships were applied with common structural rules (CSR) for the first time in the world. CSR is the worldwide structural standard for bulk carriers and double-hulled oil-tankers that had jointly developed by world’s major ship classifications and was officially announced by the International Association Classification Society (IACS) in April 2006.
This standard combines slightly differentiated criteria that had been applied per ship class and enthusiastically reflects the demands of ship owners in order to build stronger and safer vessels.
