Aker Philadelphia Shipyard Achieves 110% ROI with Kronos HR and Payroll Software

Nucleus Research analysts have independently examined the deployment of Workforce HR and Workforce Payroll software from Kronos® Incorporated at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard to find a return on investment (ROI) of 110% with payback in 11 months time. Aker Philadelphia Shipyard constructs seagoing container vessels and product tankers, with a workforce of 1,300, consisting of approximately 800 Aker employees and 600 subcontractors. Because Aker is one of less than a dozen shipyards operating in the US, it has access to a very small population of skilled workers in the industry. The company’s human resources department has focused on minimizing labor costs, promoting necessary skills and maximizing worker safety. Aker selected Kronos Workforce HR™ and Workforce Payroll™ to improve employee tracking with information related to injuries and employee certifications, improve overall systems integration and improve data accuracy.
The Kronos Workforce HR and Workforce Payroll modules have given Aker more control over when, where and how taxes are filed, greatly reducing fees. The company has greater control over how pay rules are applied in the payroll process, reducing payroll error by 90%, decreasing payroll overpayments and rework. The automation of core processes has also allowed Aker to reduce its payroll staff.
