Bridgeport shipyard seeks bankruptcy protection
derecktor shipyards connecticut in bridgeport has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but says the reorganization is not expected to affect its 250 workers. the boatyard makes and repairs yachts, ferries, crab boats and other vessels. in march the company won zoning approval to add three buildings to its 23﹣acre site on seaview avenue. it has asked for state assistance to expand on the site.
bridgeport mayor bill finch says he has spoken with derecktor executives and has been assured that the bankruptcy filing is meant to help the boat maker work out a contract dispute with a customer.
derecktor has operations in new york and florida which are not affected by the bankruptcy action.</p>
