Daewoo Shipbuilding bags two oil tanker orders from Singapore
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) has won an order to build two oil tankers for the Singapore-based oil and gas transporter BW Group, company officials said.
Under the deal worth about 200 billion won (US$179.2 million), Daewoo Shipbuilding will build two 318,000-ton Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) and deliver them to the BW Group by 2018, they noted.
The BW Group has ordered a total of 63 ships from Daewoo Shipbuilding and has received 53 so far.
With the latest order, Daewoo Shipbuilding has won $930 billion worth of orders so far this year, the largest among South Korean shipbuilders that have struggled with shrinking demand.
