Samsung Heavy bags 1.2 tln won deal for offshore platforms
Samsung Heavy Industries Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, said that it has secured a 1.17 trillion won (US$1.04 billion) deal to build two offshore platforms.
Under the deal signed with Norway-based Statoil ASA, Samsung Heavy will provide two offshore platforms that will be deployed in an oil field located 140 kilometers off Stavanger, a port city in southwestern Norway.
The Johan Sverdrup oil field, one of the European country’s key oil fields, is estimated to hold up to 3 billion barrels of oil.
The platforms will be completed by 2018, the shipbuilder said. Samsung Heavy has clinched orders worth $4 billion so far this year.
