EU investment sought in shipbuilding, recycling sects
Bangladesh sought investment from the states of the European Union (EU) to invest in the country’s environment-friendly shipbuilding and recycling industries. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu made the request when EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon met him at his Shilpa Bhaban office in the city. The Industries Minister further said the government has taken an initiative to build modern shipbuilding and recycling industries in the areas adjacent to Patuakhali Paira Bandar and Patenga in Chittagong. ‘EU investors can come up for joint investment in these areas,’ Amu said while interacting with the EU Ambassador. Both discussed various bilateral issues and diversification of Bangladesh’s industrial sector, skill development in the country’s readymade garment industry and rights of forming unions in the Export Processing Zones, according to a news agency.
