China’s shipbuilding output up 9.8pct in Jan-August
China Knowledge reported that the gross industrial output of the 87 major shipbuilding enterprises in China saw a growth of 9.8% YoY to CNy 263.7 billion in the first eight months of this year.
According to the latest statistics released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, the gross output of the ship manufacturing and ship repair sector increased 4.1% and 14.4% YoY to CNy 129.5 billion and CNY 8.44 billion in the eight month period, respectively, while that of the ship equipment industry rose 15.8% YoY to CNY 21.5 billion.
The output of completed ships dropped 9.6% year on year to 20.92 million deadweight tonnes in the first eight months. The industry’s new orders surged 38% YoY to 45.54 million deadweight tons during the period.
As at the end of Aug 2014, outstanding ship orders had increased 45.8% from a year earlier to 151.89 million deadweight tonnes.
These 87 major shipbuilding enterprises realized CNY 111.6 billion in value of exports in the first eight months, 4.5% more than it realized in the corresponding period of 2013.
