Karachi Shipyard earns Rs523.67 million profit

Managing Director, Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW), Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Nasir Shah on Friday informed National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence Production that the organization had earned profit Rs. 523.67 million and now in good financial position.

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Defence Production was held in Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Karachi on Friday under the Chairmanship of Kahawaja Sohail Mansoor, MNA about the briefing on Karachi Shipyard.

The Managing Director KS&EW informed the Committee on the working of the organization and ongoing projects.

He further informed the Committee that some major projects were being undertaken by Karachi Shipyard and Engineer Works, which were mainly of Pakistan Navy and Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

He was also of the opinion that Karachi Shipyard is a unique yard in the region owing to its geographical and strategic location.

The Chairman of the Committee and all members appreciated the management of Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works on sustained growth and operation performances of the institutions.

The committee appreciated the strong support of Pakistan Navy to Karachi Shipyard by given them an order for building of TUG (Ship).

The committee strongly recommended that First Right of Refusal should be given to Karachi Shipyard and clear directions may be passed by Authority (PQA) and Maritimes Security Agencies for providing orders of repairing and constructions of their facilities.

The committee also visited to Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works and viewed the working of Karachi Shipyard's in different wings. The Committee was briefed by the Managing Director, KS&EW about the land lease dispute of KS&EW and KPT.

The Committee recommended that Prime Minister's directive should be resubmitted for its further clarification regarding provision of land to Karachi Shipyard from KPT for 99 years, in light of the article 27 (1) of KPT Act 1886.

The Committee also recommended to KPT for release of Rs. 181 million to Karachi Shipyard at the earliest. The Committee further recommended that board of KPT should be constituted immediately for its smooth working.

The meeting was attended by Muhammad Khan Daha, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Chaudhry Hamid Hameed, Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah, Muhammad Moeen Wattoo, Bhawan Das, Shehryar Afridi, Asyia Nasir and Sajid Hussain Turi.
