The CEO of the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) Chris Potter asserted that Asry’s strategy focuses on promoting the capacities of the dry dock, which have been developed in the framework of the expansion programme, to be more effective and productive.
Asry’s CEO also said that reorganizing the trade operations will establish more independent and profitable centers through setting the company in a position, which enables it to seize potential revenue opportunities, and turning the site of the company from a shipyard to repair the ships to an integrated complex for the marine services that is able to achieve the desired success along the coming years.
Asry’s CEO said that during 2012, the company was able to achieve a slight increase in sales amounted to 5.23% compared to 2011 despite the market volatility as a result of the policy of diversification of income sources pursued by the company. He said that the diversification is considered an important factor in the company’s income to maintain a certain level of revenues, pointing out that the Department of marine Services forms the main backbone of the income, where it contributed with about 44% of last year’s income 2012, which strongly indicates that (Asry) has become the destination of the various marine services.
Asry’s CEO highlighted that Asry’s Energy Division was able to complete the construction of the first sea barge to generate power, in line with the serious directives of the Board of Directives to diversify sources of income.
In the meantime, the Advisory Services Department, which was launched in the first quarter of this year, has started to implement its assigned duties, and has become a cornerstone in diversifying sources of income through new services that are presented to all the company’s customers. This is achieved in line with the continuity of the services for repairing ships, that is considered the main pillar of the company’s work, where the quality of these services is always improved to attain the best revenues for the company.
In his speech, written in the beginning of the annual report issued recently, Chris Potter added that the renovation of the facilities of the Dry Dock is nearly completed in 2012, and this led to the completion of the supporting major projects, highlighting that the cranes of the new piers have been operated in the first half of this year. He said that the pier has been developed to meet the needs of the company’s customers.
Chris Potter pointed out that last year witnessed the completion of the wastewater treatment plant, as well as the completion of the sewerage network all over the entire Dry Dock, raising the levels of the company’s wastewater management to international standards, in addition to building new facilities for the residence of the workers on a land area of 7200 square meters, which raised the standard of living of the labor force.
The CEO also highlighted that the company has appointed new agents in Germany, and countries to the north and west of Japan, which contributed in increasing the work coming from these markets, due to the application of a new system that strengthens relations between the agents and the customers, through consolidating, developing and diversifying ways of contact with customers, including organizing annual workshops. A full-time director was also appointed for agents affairs.
The CEO pointed out that Asry also cares about training its staff and developing their capabilities, where it established a partnership with Tamkeen, and the National Institute for Industrial Training to train 50 graduate of the Vocational Secondary Schools with a cost of 3.8 million dollars along the next three years.
Chris Potter added that Asry set a programme for celebrating the various occasions in the Bahraini society, and special programmes for the staff and workers, which contributes in raising the morale of its affiliates, reinforcing the community partnership, and made Asry attain the concern of the international organizations and institutions. Asry also participates in world’s exhibitions like Posidonia Exhibition in Greece, and SMM Trade Fair in Hamburg, as well patronizing international sea awards such as Lloyd's List and Sea Trade Awards in London and the Middle East.
