Locally listed Chinese Maritime Transport is taking advantage of low newbuild prices by placing its first new order for three years. CMT will pay $46.8m for a 180,000 dwt capesize to be built at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) for delivery at the end of 2015. The price mirrors May’s capesize contracts from Taiwan’s Sincere Navigation, a record low for SWS. CMT has plans to order at least two more capesizes in the coming months.
