Norway-based Belships has placed an order for two new supramax dry bulk carriers from Japan-based Imabari Shipbuilding.
Belships announced on Wednesday that the newbuildings will be delivered during the second half of 2015 and first half of 2016, respectively.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. “The board is of the opinion that it has obtained favorable terms at an established Japanese yard with long traditions,” Belship said in a statement.
“The design provided by the shipyard represents the future eco design supramax bulk carriers with the latest technology available both in terms of fuel efficiency and low emissions,” the company added.
Belship will propose a share issue of NOK90m ($15.5m) at an extraordinary general meeting on 27 June to fund the newbuildings.
