Global newbuild orderbook halved since 2008
The global newbuild orderbook has fallen below 100m cgt and 5,000 ships for the first time since May 2005. At the end of the boom times for shipping, the orderbook crossed the 200m cgt mark, London’s Clarkson reported. This year alone the orderbook has dropped by 17%.
Clarkson statistics show that China’s beleagured shipbuilders now have an orderbook of just 35.22m cgt or 1,965ships.
