China Rongsheng bags European bulker and boxship orders
Bucking the recent newbuilding ordering trend China Rongsheng Heavy Industries has bagged an order for 10 large bulkers. The Chinese shipbuilder inked a contract on Sunday
with an undisclosed European owner to build ten 205,000 dwt bulkers. The yard said the ships were to a tailor made design with a shallow draught and low bunker consumption of less than 60 tonnes a day. China Rongsheng described the bulker order as a “rarely seen large order for Chinese ship yards in the first half of 2010”. In a good week for the Chinese yard it also signed contracts with two European owners for four 6,600 teu boxships.
